Bancha Hoji Cha - Roasted Tea

These are the larger leaves taken from the lower part of the Sencha bush.  The beverage is golden brown in colour, mellow and low in caffeine making it ideal as a first introduction to green tea.  

Due to the roasting process the green vegetable notes of the leaf are replaced by a lovely toasty, caramel flavour. 

Pleasant to drink early in the day: before, during and post breakfast. This is the preferred option for children and the elderly in Japan at any time of the day, evenings and night time too, due to its much reduced caffeine and astringency, as compared with other green teas.

Use 1 heaped teaspoon per cup and steep for 1 minute in 75°C water.

    I love this tea, so different to the usual black and green teas. Very refreshing but very tasty too. Particularly good at breakfast or in the morning

    I recently drifted from Green Tea to Oolong but then found Bancha Hoji Cha. I particularly like the clean nutty flavour of this tea, reminiscent of oolongs but less variable, and this is my second order of this wonderful tea.
