The Best Teas to Drink Morning, Noon and Night
28th Jul 2020
We love how different teas can be consumed throughout the day and work harmoniously with the body, providing a wealth of benefits. For instance, they can offer a boost of energy in the morning, aid digestion and cognitive focus in the afternoon and promote relaxation and sleep in the evening.
Here are recommendations of some of our favourite teas and the best time to drink them:
Morning - Early Morning & Before Breakfast
- Early Morning Tea - No better way to start the day than with a blend of spring teas from the highlands of Darjeeling and Ceylon. A well balanced black tea with a lovely aroma, fresh and very slightly floral in taste and not too strong. Will set you in the right mood for breakfast.
- Bancha Hojicha is a roasted green sencha tea from Japan. Due to the roasting process the green vegetable notes of the leaf are replaced by a toasty, caramel flavour. Pleasant to drink early in the day: before, during and post breakfast. This is a preferred option for children and the elderly in Japan due to its very low caffeine and much reduced astringency.
Tea and Midday - Before or After Lunch
- Se Chung Oolong is mild and wonderfully refreshing. An ideal pre or post lunch beverage (try to drink 30 minutes before or after eating and not on an empty stomach). Oolongs are often considered afternoon teas, and offer a flavour range that sits between a green and black tea. With a milder caffeine content to black tea and a stronger, more distinct flavour than green tea, Se Chung offers the best of both worlds.
This is an ideal tea to consume if you are looking to lose a few pounds. A study has shown that regularly drinking oolong tea helps to burn fat and speed up your metabolism. - Rooibos Flower Dance is a delight at midday and makes a lovely change from the usual choices of rooibos. Sprinkled with sunflowers, cornflowers, rose and marigold flowers this tea contains no caffeine and is rich in minerals and vitamins. With a natural sweetness from vanilla and strawberries it is an ideal pick me up for the afternoon slump. We find It's worth waiting those 5-10 minutes for your cup!
Evening and Night Time Tea
- Harmony herbal tea is calming, caffeine and tannin free. It has a lovely combination of flavours including roobos, chamomile and honeybush. This tea is perfect as an after dinner beverage as it contains fennel seeds and lemon grass, known for their digestive promoting qualities.
- Relaxing tea has all the herbs to aid digestion and rest. Ideal as a comforting, pre-sleep beverage and, in the middle of a sleepless night. Cardamom, liquorice and aniseed are complemented by lemon balm, orange petals and raspberry leaves giving a well balanced flavour. This blend is also caffeine and tannin free.
We hope that you find our recommendations useful. Drinking certain teas at the right time of day can not only enhance your enjoyment but maximise the health benefits associated with them.
